The very fact that this event is taking place during my birthday trip to LA is a clear indication that a higher being favors me. :)

DJ/Producer Ali Shaheed burst on to the scene with A Tribe Called Quest, creating hip-hop classics like, “The Low End Theory” and “Midnight Marauders”. His production company, The Ummah, formed in the 90s with Jay Dee and Q-Tip, included a wide range of artists including Mos Def and D’Angelo. Hip Hop trio De La Soul also changed the hip-hop game of the 90s with their witty lyrics and ingenious sampling. DJ Maseo’s turntable rhythm section helped the group receive critical acclaim, including their debut album “3 Feet High and Rising” being named Album of the Year by NME. Both will participate in hosted lectures in the afternoon, and later that night will take to the decks at Boombox, paying tribute to fallen legend and friend, James Dewitt Yancey (1974-2006).
***This night is recorded for Red Bull Music Academy Radio. Tune in at RBMARadio.com***
